WATCH: Portugal Eliminates North Korea In 7-0 Rout

Portugal has eliminated North Korea in a rout, scoring seven goals and bringing to an end the remarkably weird journey of the North Korean squad in South Africa.

If you’re a fan of gratuitous goal-scoring (who isn’t?), then this was the match for you. Raul Meireles’ early goal gave Portugal the lead, but things started really rolling in the second half, when the Portuguese rolled off three goals in an eight-minute span.

But what of the North Koreans? More importantly, what about the hundreds of Chinese actors that were employed by Kim Jong Il to pose as North Koreans? Were they getting paid on a per-match basis? Was it a flat fee? I wonder if they lose money because North Korea won’t make it out of group play.

Putting the money aside for a second, this has to be crushing to them on a personal level. They put a lot of heart into fake-cheering for their fake country.
