WATCH: The Goal/Miscue Of The Day – David Villa’s Midfield Strike
There was no more eye-catching sequence of events in today’s World Cup action than when, in this afternoon’s Chile-Spain match (won by Spain 2-1), Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, who has an amazing name, made an unfortunately (for him) less-than-amazing play…and Spain’s David Villa impressively reaped the benefits.
Bravo went waaaaaaaaaaaaaay outside his box to clear the ball, and did so…but his clearing kick went directly to Villa, the star Spaniard striker. Villa promptly rocketed in a shot from around 45 yards away into the completely unattended net, and gave Spain a 1-0 lead in the process.
Obviously this was a costly mistake by Bravo, but it was just as impressive on Villa’s end – no shot is a gimme from that distance, even one that’s completely uncontested, and he made it look easy.
Video of the play from several angles is below. Enjoy it – if not for the action, for the kickin’ alt-rock soundtrack.
