A Colorado State Recruit Was Injured In The Dark Knight Shooting

Colorado State football recruit Zack Golditch was one of the 71 victims in the deadly shooting at the Century 16 Theater in Aurora, Colorado last night. As of now police have the death toll from the shooting, which took place during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises, at 12.

An offensive lineman out of Gateway High School, Golditch was in the theater adjacent to the one where the shooting took place. One of the bullets fired by 24-year-old James Holmes traveled through the wall, striking Golditch in the right side, “entering just below the ear, exiting at his hairline,” according to The Coloradoan.

Golditch, who was at the theater with high school and CSU football players, is fine. The bullet didn’t penetrate deep, and he’s currently at home resting.

He described the scene in the theater:

“It was at the scene of the movie where a firearm was pulled and shots were fired. It kind of sounded like black cats went off,” said Golditch, who committed to Colorado State University in June. “Everyone kind of looked around the theater and this guy had like a hole in his arm. Everyone just thought they were firecrackers so we turned back to the movie, and that’s when my ears started ringing and I fell on my friend. I was fearful of another firecracker coming to hit me.”

Meanwhile, sophomore CSU wideout David Anderson, who was sitting two rows from his friend Golditch, described the two most emotional moments as seeing his friend get shot, “and seeing a police officer do everything possible to save a little girl’s life, who later passed away.”

Because he doesn’t want to let the experience keep him from living his life, Anderson says he plans on seeing The Dark Knight Rises at some point, in its entirety.

UPDATE: Golditch isn’t going to miss Friday’s football practice at Gateway High, even though a stray bullet went through his neck.
