This Video Of A Mets Player Hitting Himself In The Head Is Symbolic, Somehow
As the Mets finish up another forgettable season – currently they sit at 74-82, assured of a losing record despite a payroll in excess of $118 million, and that whole Madoff thing – it’s tempting to look for one moment that encapsulates it all. Well, Outside the Box Score believe they’ve found that video, they might well be right, and they didn’t have to go back far to find it: yesterday, to be exact, when outfielder Angel Pagan hit himself in the head with his own swing. You can see that above.
Perhaps, though, the video can be symbolic in a different way for the Mets. As OtBS’s Ben Chew points out, while Pagan needed some time to regroup after his errant swing, he finished off the at-bat – and the game. That game ended in an 8-6 comeback Mets win. Pagan’s swing is a sign of what’s been. Could what followed be a sign of things to come? The Mets will take any hope they can get.
