Bo Wyble, Foul Ball Boyfriend, On Catchin’ Hate And Relationships That End On National TV

So last night I decided to try my luck at interviewing Bo Wyble, who we unceremoniously dubbed “Worst Boyfriend Ever” after he avoided a foul ball at an Astros game and it hit his girlfriend.

I messaged Bo on Facebook, asking if he wanted to be interviewed. He said “sure,” gave me his phone number, and after confirming it was him, I gave him a call.

What follows is a conversation about not catching foul balls, catchin’ hate instead, and high school relationships that end on national TV.

So when this first happened, were you ever thinking, “Wow, this might end up on the internet”?

No not at all, I didn’t think this would a big deal at all. We did the Early Show, Inside Edition. CNN left a voicemail. I called them back but they didn’t pick up. All of it’s very surprising. I thought it was just going to be a game, a foul ball. When CBS called I was like, “holy shit.”

I saw on your Facebook that you mentioned “a lot of people are hating.” Do you mean the media, random people on the internet, or your friends?

People from everywhere are hating. “Oh you’re a douche bag, I’d never let it hit my girl.” It’s not like I saw it and said,  “I’ma let it hit my girl.” I just lost it in the lights and didn’t want to get hit.

Harry Smith, the guy who interviewed you on the Early Show, went into a whole thing about “what a man would have done.” What was that like?

I just laughed at it. Everybody thinks what they want to think. You can’t change a thing like that, and I’m just enjoying the ride.

What’s the status of your relationship with Sara? You guys seemed good when you were at the game, then things seemed iffy when you appeared on CBS.

We broke up, but we didn’t break up because of the game. She’s movin’ to college at Florida State, and that’s the reason we broke it off. That’s the only reason she came down to Houston, she was going to college so we wanted to spend some time together. All of this happened before we went to the game.

So there you have it: Life. Love. Missing foul balls – so is the chronicle of Bo Wydle. For what it’s worth, Bo seemed like an okay guy, an 18-year-old kid who was flown to New York for a few days by CBS and was legitimately amazed at all of the attention he was getting.

Alas, I forgot to ask him if he’d bring a glove to his next Astros game. My guess is: no. No he wouldn’t.

Thanks for the story. He does seem like a decent guy.

Here’s an idea, pay attention to the game in the future you silly tw*t and maybe you get out of the way. Did you happen to notice that others around them were getting out of the way? They have been dating for 4 months. I have been dating my girlfriend for 3 years and I wouldn’t jump in front of an errant marshmallow toss at a smores cookout! Equal rights b*tches… catch ur own foul ball!!
