Did A Pirates Player Say Something Racist To Brandon Phillips Last Night? (Video)

After the Reds beat the Pirates 4-3 in 14 innings last night, Cincinnati second baseman Brandon Phillips took to Twitter to make a rather serious charge against an unidentified player. Since we’re assuming it wasn’t someone on his own team who made the comments, that means someone on Pittsburgh said something they shouldn’t have.

The tweet in question:

#RealTalk… Not really surprised by what I heard come outta another player’s mouth tonite but DAMN… Still PISSED bout that $h¡+!! #Racism

The incident likely has something to do with Phillips being hit by a pitch by Pittsburgh’s Jared Hughes in the eighth inning. The HBP resulted in both benches being warned, and when you couple this incident with the fact that Andrew McCutchen was plunked by a 101 MPH pitch from Reds’ closer Aroldis Chapman in August, you’ve got a recipe for disaster/an awesome hypothetical playoff series if the Pirates can sneak in (they’re currently 2.5 games out of a wild card spot).
