A.J. Burnett And Hanley Ramirez Do Not Appear To Be Fond Of One Another

The Pirates and Dodgers are in the thick of a pennant race, and yesterday, things got quite interesting when the teams finished out a four-game series in Pittsburgh.

Los Angeles had already taken the first three meetings, but Pittsburgh would eventually rally yesterday for a 10-6 win. In the fourth inning, though, L.A.’s Hanley Ramirez homered to give the Dodgers the lead. As he rounded second base, he made some sort of gesture that irked Pirates’ pitcher A.J. Burnett.

In the sixth inning, Burnett got his revenge, striking out Ramirez. The Dodgers already had problems with home plate umpire Angel Campos earlier in the game, and Ramirez appeared to be upset with some strike calls earlier in the at bat.

So Burnett helped to clarify the sequence for Hanley. Buster Olney explains:

Chad Moriyama was quick to point out he believed Hanley was gesturing toward the Dodgers’ dugout, a team ritual, but don’t tell that to Burnett.

The video if the entire incident is below. Here’s to hoping the Pirates and Dodgers see each other in the postseason, in what could now be an interesting series.
