ESPN Reporter: “Andy Pettitte’s Never Getting In The Hall Of Fame”

The Yankees’ Andy Pettitte officially announced his retirement today, saying he “didn’t have the hunger” he’d need to get through another full season. When news first broke that Pettitte was probably on his way out, the questions immediately became: 1) What do the Yankees do for starting pitching now? and 2) Should Pettitte be elected to the Hall of Fame?

As you can see from the link above, SB Nation’s Rob Neyer thinks Pettitte does belong – barely. But when anchor Linda Cohn asked ESPN baseball analyst Buster Olney on SportsCenter earlier today if it would ever actually happen, Olney had a different take.

After describing Pettitte’s numbers as “borderline” (more or less putting him in line with Neyer), Olney said Pettitte’s admission of HGH usage will leave him permanently off enough ballots that his Hall of Fame candidacy probably isn’t even worth discussing. Video of the frank assessment below.
