This Was The Tied-Up Stripper Found In Aroldis Chapman’s Hotel Room

This is Aroldis Chapman, the 24-year-old flame-throwing Reds relief pitcher who has allowed seven hits in 26 innings so far this season. Nicknamed the “Cuban Missile,” Chapman was once clocked at throwing 105 MPH and has, by all accounts, a very bright future in the majors.

This is the tied-up stripper that was found in Chapman’s hotel room late Tuesday.

Her name is Claudio Manrique, and, according to the Post-Gazette, she (and Chapman) may have been the victims of a robbery.

The woman, who was taken to UPMC Mercy, told police she answered a knock at the door to find a man claiming to be from the hotel’s maintenance department, there to fix a toilet.

The woman opened the door and the man entered and demanded various items from the room, police said. When the woman refused, she said, he tied her up and took jewelry, clothing, a computer, credit cards and ID cards, the news release said.

Two hotel guests heard Manrique screaming for help and alerted hotel security — when they got in the room, they discovered that her hands had been tied with two cloth napkins.

Then the story gets weirder, as noted by Bob’s Blitz. Manrique is married, you see, and after she was interviewed for 10 hours about the incident by detectives, she was picked up from Zone 2 police station by her husband. Then it gets even weirder than that. Via WTAE.

In an unrelated incident, former boyfriend Shahryar Kamouei told Channel 4 Action News that Manrique stole from him during a trip to Las Vegas.

A police report says that Kamouei, of Baltimore, accuses Manrique of stealing $2,000 by accessing his bank account online while he was out of the room. That case is still under investigation.

Kamouei said the relationship began while Manrique, who is from Colombia and currently lives in Silver Spring, Md., was working as a stripper at the Ritz Cabaret in Baltimore. But things went sour in Vegas, where he also learned that she was married.

“She said she’s only married to get a green card,” Kamouei said.

Chapman, meanwhile, has had a really rough go of it since coming to America. In addition to his well-documented troubles with assimilating, he’s had numerous speeding incidents — eight days prior to the stripper fiasco, he was arrested for driving 93 MPH in Ohio with a suspended license. The company he’s kept has been questionable, and the Reds front office has noticed (although Reds GM Walt Jocketty seems to think he’s doing better: ”Right now I would not say that’s a concern. It may have been at one time, but not now.”).

He’s also battled trust issues: Chapman recently told USA Today that the only person he trusts is his mother. The fact that police sought to question the married stripper in his hotel room for 10 hours also means that they think she may have been involved in the robbery, which means he might have one less person to trust.

Then again: married stripper. Which goes back to whole “Aroldis Chapman isn’t keeping the best company” thing.
