One Youtube User Imagines A Cliff Lee-Jayson Werth Conversation (Video)

When the Philadelphia Phillies allowed outfielder Jayson Werth to sign with the Washington Nationals, ostensibly over money concerns, only to sign pitcher Cliff Lee to a lucrative deal shortly thereafter, many wondered: what did Werth think of that? Well, according to Phillies GM Ruben Amaro, Werth wasn’t thrilled with the Phillies.

But what if Werth spoke with Lee, the player the Phillies essentially chose over him? Youtube user mld5254 imagined just that scenario (albeit with cartoon characters, using the text-to-video service Xtranormal), and in this re-imagining (which you can watch above, but be warned some of the language is NSFW), Werth blames not the Phillies, but himself…for being so high when he signed the contract that he just thought the Nationals wanted an autograph. The cartoon Werth also exhibits a rather extreme misunderstanding of living in Washington, D.C. (“There’s like a 50 percent chance I will live next to Barack Obama“).

The video became something of an immediate sensation, garnering almost 200,000 views in the first days after it was uploaded. And it’s easy to see why – it combines perhaps the biggest ongoing story in free agency (the Phillies’ maneuvering) with a pretty amusing video. Well, Nationals fans and people from Texas might not be quite as enamored of it, but that’s another matter.
