Enhanced Adonis DNA: Charlie Sheen Says He Did Steroids To Get Ready For Major League
Sports Illustrated recently published an oral history of Major League, the 1989 baseball satire starring Charlie Sheen that grossed over $50 million in the domestic box office. The piece, which interviews the film’s actors, writers, producers, and other important people, features some insights from “Wild Thing” himself. One of those insights will have people talking.
Here’s Sheen, describing his altered mood during filming.
Sheen: I didn’t like the haircut because it generated so many comments in bars. I’ve got enough of that already. Add that to the mix and it’s a recipe for a fistfight. I was already bitchy because—let’s just say that I was enhancing my performance a little bit. It was the only time I ever did steroids. I did them for like six or eight weeks. You can print this, I don’t give a f—. My fastball went from 79 to like 85.
Now. This is Charlie Sheen we’re talking about. As you’ll recall from his semi-coherent media takeover earlier this year, the man is prone to hyperbole. And even if he did enhance his Tiger Blood, steroids in movies are nothing new: Sylvester Stallone in Rocky III is probably the practice’s most gratuitous example, but even serious actors like Brad Pitt have been rumored to have done it. So an eight-week cycle by a man who’s prone to substance abuse isn’t entirely out of the question.
Still… Charlie Sheen did steroids on a baseball movie? How perfect is that?
