Fouling A Ball Off Your Face: It Still Doesn’t Look Like Much Fun
Is it just us, or have we had a lot of “people taking fouls balls off the face” stories at baseball games lately? There was this unfortunate fan. There was another unfortunate fan. There was unfortunate Astros outfielder/first baseman Carlos Lee. And now, joining these unenviable ranks: Blue Jays outfielder Eric Thames, who suffered through the incident you can see above against the Yankees yesterday – and in the process, split his own eyelid open. Thames was removed from the game, but said he was “lucky” he wasn’t hurt worse. As a whole, though, we’d say baseball’s having remarkably bad luck with foul balls hitting people’s faces. All those videos we linked above? They’re not just from this season, they’re all from the last couple months.
