Watch The Last Out Of Felix Hernandez’s Perfect Game Against The Rays

Well, that was a way to spice up a slow-seeming sports afternoon. The Mariners’ Felix Hernandez just finished throwing the 23rd perfect game in baseball history, first in Mariners history, and third this season, blanking the Rays 1-0. Even by perfect game standards, this one was particularly impressive – Hernandez finished with 12 strikeouts, including striking out the side in the eighth and freezing the Rays’ Sean Rodriguez on the final pitch of the afternoon.

It was actually the second perfect game in Seattle this season, but last time, the Mariners were on the wrong end of things, as when the White Sox’ Philip Humber went 27 up, 27 down. This time, though, it was all King Felix. He was so dominant that in the last couple innings, it would have been surprising if he hadn’t finished it off. Hernandez is one of the few guys in baseball capable of an outing like this every time he takes the mound. Today, he delivered in full, reminding us that when he’s on, he can be about as good as anyone who ever pitched. Video of the final out below.
