UPDATE: George Steinbrenner Has Died Of A Heart Attack
George Steinbrenner has died after suffering a massive heart attack according to the New York Daily News, and a high-placed source with the team says the Yankees owner died at 6:30 am this morning. A local Tampa news station, BN9, originally reported on Twitter that the Yankees owner had died, but pulled back its claims.
Here’s the Tampa Bay station’s original tweet:
Breaking: Bay News 9 has received unconfirmed reports that Yankees owner George Steinbrenner has died.
WABC is also reporting that Steinbrenner’s condition is listed as “extremely critical.”
Steinbrenner has not been in the public spotlight very much in recent years, as his health continued to decline. His sons, Hank and Hal Steinbrenner, have taken on more active roles in running the team. We’ll have more on The Bosses’ health as info becomes available.
UPDATE: The New York Daily News is reporting that George Steinbrenner has died. ESPN is now also reporting it.
UPDATE: BN9 in Tampa is pulling back it’s death claims. Their original tweet, which said Steinbrenner had died, has been replaced with one saying he’s been hospitalized.
