Yes, The Colorado Rockies Signed 49-Year-Old Pitcher Jamie Moyer To A Minor League Deal

Ten years ago, Jamie Moyer signing a deal with the Colorado Rockies wouldn’t have been a big deal. Now, considering he’s 49 years old, it seems pretty ridiculous that the Rockies are desperate(?) enough to ink him to a deal.
To be fair, it is a minor league deal. But, he did get an invite to Spring Training. Meaning, he has a shot to make the big league team. Moyer currently sits a No. 36 on Major League Baseball’s all-time wins list, with 267 victories. In his sights are Jim Palmer (268), Mike Mussina (270) and Burleigh Grimes (270). In order for him to leap his way into the Top 30 he’ll need to win 17 games this season. So, good luck with that.
Moyer missed the entire 2011 season after having Tommy John surgery on his pitching arm. He last pitched in 2010 with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he won nine games and lost nine — he broke even! You can follow his complete 2010 season on the Moyer2010 blog. Yes, there’s a blog dedicated entirely to Moyer and his 2010 season. Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to follow along in 2012 should Moyer makes the big leagues.
