Man Gets Hit By Stray Bullet At Rays Game, Keeps On Watching The Game

Probably one of the last things one would consider while watching a baseball game at the stadium is: “Will I get shot here?” And yet, that’s exactly what happened to Charles Sweatt, a Florida resident who took a stray bullet in the leg. The origin of the bullet was unknown, but what Sweatt did afterwards should go down in history as unequivocally awesome.

Sweatt, a police chief who was at the June 16th match-up between Tampa Bay and Miami, felt a “mild sting” in his right thigh during the game. Another fan later found a stray bullet, which failed to even pierce Sweatt’s skin, only leaving a bruise. Fox Sports Florida speculates that “errant shots” from a shooting about a mile away from Tropicana Field might have gone through the stadium’s roof and hit the 54-year-old fan.

So what did Sweatt do after surviving this unintended threat on his life?

Sweatt was struck about 9 p.m. ET and, after being examined by paramedics, went back to watching the game, which the Marlins won 4-3.

Sure, the bullet only left a bruise without piercing the skin. But to go about your business after a random bullet hits you in the leg? Considering that a slight change in the bullet’s angle and velocity could have killed the man? That’s got to be some combination of extreme sports fandom and incredible bad-assery. And since there aren’t too many extreme Tampa Bay Rays fans out there, it’s probably more the latter.
