Scary: A Pitcher Gets Knocked Out By His Own Catcher’s Throw
Scary video from Saturday’s SEC semifinal between Florida and Alabama. Gators pitcher Brian Johnson sustained a concussion after being hit in the back of the head by his own catcher’s throw, and for several terrible minutes, he was down on the ground and not moving a whole lot.
The catcher, Mike Zunino, was attempting to throw out a runner when he tripped mid-toss. Johnson, who was crouched on the pitcher’s mound with his back to home plate, was hit. Thankfully, the St. Petersburg Times is reporting that tests at a local hospital show “no fractures, bruises or bleeding,” and Johnson was later released.
