NY Daily News Back Page Announces Roger Clemens Verdict In Typically Understated Fashion

The NY Daily News isn’t happy that Roger Clemens was acquitted of all charges yesterday. Innocent until proven guilty, unless the Daily News thinks otherwise.

But seriously, it’s not like too many people believe Clemens is innocent. Andy Pettitte came clean, but Clemens didn’t. Congrats to Roger for staying out of jail, but his name will never be cleared, and there’s a good chance he won’t make the Hall of Fame. I suppose that’s punishment enough.

And not only is the headline sensational, but does anyone really care about the Clemens trial? The court of public opinion had deemed Clemens guilty years ago, and this verdict doesn’t mean much. It’s good for Clemens and his family, but is this really worthy of owning the back page? I mean, R.A. Dickey just threw his second-consecutive no-hitter. I guess not even having the best pitcher in baseball can get the Mets to steal a headline from the Yankees. Maybe someday.

Here’s the back page, in full, via Newseum.
