Catching A Foul Ball With Your Beer, Then Chugging Your Beer: Truly The Ideal Ballpark Experience

One goal of many fans attending a baseball game is to drink beer. A modest goal, to be sure, and an infuriatingly expensive one, but a goal nonetheless – you want a beer while you’re watching the game. That’s easy. What’s less easy is another goal many people have when they come to the ballpark: catching a foul ball. The odds are against you. There are tons of beers. There aren’t many foul balls.

But some manage the right combination of luck and skill it takes to get themselves a foul ball. If they catch the foul ball and get to drink their beer? That’s baseball heaven, right there. But what if the foul ball and beer experiences interacted in an even more unlikely, glorious way? One exceedingly fortunate Padres fan got to find out:

Even more so than the beer-catch-and-chug, our favorite part was the announcer’s ecstatic reaction to what he was seeing. He might have been happier than the guy who actually got the ball. This was a landmark moment in that man’s life. He was so excited that Dick Enberg had to calm down when he excitedly went on about how if he were in charge the guy would have to finish his beer (a point he has quite possibly been honing for years, since judging by the way he reacted he has always secretly hoped to see a beer-catch) and reassure him: “He will.”

And he did. Everyone goes home happy. Especially the Padres’ color man. If he ever catches a foul ball with his beer himself, we just hope cameras are rolling on him.
