Movers And Shakers: Strasburg, Galarraga, And The NBA Finals Top The Hype Charts

In “Movers and Shakers”, we track who’s made dramatic leaps (or who’s fallen off) on our Power Grid. Today, a rookie makes a splash, a Tiger gets robbed of perfection, and the NBA Finals are in full effect. To the proprietary algorithm!

MLB

Stephen Strasburg (+304) – The most highly anticipated pro sports debut in recent memory not only generated hype, but lived up to it. Stephen Strasburg struck out 14 batters in 7 innings in his first major league outing, and it’s no surprise that he’s the second most-talked-about baseball player in recent news articles. As soon as he’s got a few starts under his belt, expect his player value rating to increase, and his Power Grid ranking to increase as well.

Armando Galarraga (+102) – We mentioned that Stephen Strasburg is the second most-talked-about baseball player in recent news articles. Who’s the first? Armando Galarraga, he of the 8 and 2/3 perfect innings. But unless this marks a dramatic turnaround in Galarraga’s future production, expect him to flame out on the MLB Players Power Grid reasonably soon (I know, we’re sad too. Unfortunately, class isn’t one of our tracked metrics).

Ken Griffey, Jr. (+47) – Oh man, this one makes us sad too! News of Junior’s retirement has made him the 7th most-talked about player in the news (which is a testament to just how much has been going on in baseball recently). Goodbye Griffey, we were big fans of your career, but even bigger fans of your video game!

Next: The NBA Finals = hype.
