Movers And Shakers: Strasburg, Galarraga, And The NBA Finals Top The Hype Charts

NBA

The Celtics Big 4 (+2, +4, +10, +17) – The Celtics surprise playoff run has led to increased attention for their stars, most notably Rajon Rondo. Before the playoffs started, I doubt Rondo would have been in the top 30, much less the top 10 on the NBA power grid. Also of note: Paul Pierce is the second most-talked-about player in the news, behind only Kobe Bryant.

Chicago Bulls (+10) – Thanks to a new head coach and all of the LeBron free agency hoopla, the Bulls are the most buzzed-about NBA team to not make the conference finals.

Danny Ferry (-7) – Unfortunately, not all of the LeBron-related hype is positive. Danny Ferry won’t be returning as Cavs GM, largely due to the team’s efforts to keep James. Although he’s one of the most talked-about GMs on the Grid, his lack of a team (and thus, a team performance value rating) have made put his ranking into a free fall.

Media

Mark Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy, and Mike Breen (+10, +16, +25) – Oh hello, TV mentions. The NBA Finals announcers have seen their stock rise because, well, they’re announcing the NBA Finals. In addition, Van Gundy and Jackson have found themselves at the center of a number of free agent rumors.

Keith Law (+67) – ESPN writer Keith Law is the Mel Kiper Jr. of the MLB draft, and his output shows it: he ranks 3rd and 4th on news buzz and blog buzz, respectively.

Grant Wahl, Ronald Blum (+7, +73) – Wahl gets a push thanks to Sports Illustrated’s World Cup preview issue, and Blum has seen a surge thanks to a number one ranking in news buzz on the eve of the world’s most-hyped tournament.
