I don’t know if you’ve heard, but the Red Sox completed one of the biggest collapses in baseball history last night.
Up nine games on the Tampa Bay Rays for an AL Wild Card spot on September 2nd, Boston proceeded to go 7-20 this month, completing their collapse with a 4-3 loss to the Orioles last night after leading 3-2 in the ninth inning.
When the smoke cleared, the Sox were out of the playoffs and Boston’s worst fears were realized. Here are the newspaper headlines that greeted the region, which are predictably gloomy.
