Rob Dibble Takes Off His Jesus Gloves When Dealing With Stephen Strasburg

Apparently “Strasmas” is over for Nationals broadcaster Rob Dibble. On his show for SIRIUS XM’s MLB Network Radio yesterday, Dibble called out the Nats’ recently disabled  franchise player by telling him to “suck it up.”

“So for me, a little bit has to be put back on Strasburg here. Ok, you throw a pitch, it bothers your arm, and you immediately call out the manager and the trainer? Suck it up, kid. This is your profession. You chose to be a baseball player. You can’t have the cavalry come in and save your butt every time you feel a little stiff shoulder, sore elbow.”

In case you couldn’t hear it, that’s the sound of the Nationals ownership collectively banging their heads against their desks.

For those playing at home, Dibble played in parts of seven seasons, never pitching more than 99 innings. In fact, he was a career reliever, so he has no idea the strain being a starter takes on one’s arm. He also decided to ignore the fact that this was the second scare that Strasburg had in less than a month, and it’s not like the Nationals are playing meaningful games right now. Or that it was the Nationals trainers who came out, not Strasburg calling for them, but why let facts get in the way of good rant? Now, let’s get to the part that I can’t stop laughing about.

Imagine if at your job, a low-level employee went around telling everyone how much of a wimp your company’s rising star is. That’s basically what Dibble did. It would be one thing if Dibble didn’t work for the Nationals, and technically he made those comments as an employee of Sirius, but still. There’s such a thing called common sense, Rob, and to think your bosses in Washington won’t react to it is ignorant – no matter how much you may claim that those “little blogs” took you out of context.

Calling out Tyler Clippard because he is afraid to pitch inside is fine, calling that same team’s only marquee player a wuss, is not.

This isn’t the first time Dibble’s comments have gotten him in hot water. A few weeks ago he was endlessly (and hilariously) mocked for comments regarding a couple of women who made the horrific mistake of sitting behind the plate.

Given those comments and his unfair maligning of Strasburg, it’s time to meet Rob Dibble’s arch enemy, the mute button.
