Roger Clemens Talks About Indictment, Sort Of (Audio) – Update

Roger Clemens has a tough legal battle ahead after his indictment on perjury charges, and recently he took to WEEI’s The Big Show to discuss the charges. Unsurprisingly, though, he didn’t say much.

One thing of interest was that Clemens said the indictment didn’t surprise him. He still says he’s looking forward to “having [his] say” in court and generally like a guy who is not backing down, despite the fact even at the time of his testimony, most people didn’t believe him.

But mostly, he just declined to elaborate. He was cordial, even friendly, with the hosts, but said things like, “As you know, I’m not gonna talk about what we have ahead of us,” when asked if the circus surrounding him (and the reports that Andy Pettitte’s sworn statement played a crucial role in Clemens’ indictment) affected him at all.

Then, the hosts mentioned that many people accused of using performance-enhancing substances eventually owned up to it. They then asked Clemens if his denials were tantamount to saying he’d never give in. His response:

I said it in my tweet…as easy as I could say it…like I said, I’m not gonna comment on that; I probably commented too much, probably made [attorney] Rusty [Hardin]…hopefully not upset…anyway, I said it, in exactly [the] way it needed to be said, and I’m finally gonna have a say, and that’s what’s…gonna be good about this.”

We understand Clemens is in a sensitive spot, but that wasn’t exactly, “No, I’ll never give in.” And speaking of tweets, we told you about him thanking supportive fans, but he showed today what he’ll do to unsupportive writers. See that on the next page, or listen to his radio interview below.

»» NEXT: Clemens isn’t holding anything back on Twitter these days – at least not in his opinions of reports critical of him.
