Unlike the United States where we consider anybody with one black parent or black grandparent to be black, in the Dominican it’s far different. Over 75% of the country is of mixed white European and black African descent. But because of their history, many Dominicans view it the completely opposite way: one drop of white blood makes them white. And almost nobody calls themselves “black,” instead using other racial and ethnic classifications.

We can make jokes that he looks like Count Chocula or Eddie Munster, but it’s sad that the racism of colonialism from hundreds of years ago still affects even the rich and, arguably, most famous Dominican who ever lived.

Holy cow, say it ain’t So_sa!  Although, he does look younger, it’s funny, while some dark skinned people want to be fairer, many whites tan regularly to become darker.

So sad. 

I thought we were all told that you can’t bleach your skin like that, a la Michael Jackson? Why would he do that? freaky.

Whites tan to look like they spend time outdoors, a social badge of how much free time they have and how they spend it. They don’t do it to look like minorities.

Thats not the sole explanation. Tanning makes you look leaner. As evidenced by the fact that all bodybuilders tan to an extreme degree.
