Scientific Evidence That Michelle Beadle’s Dress Did, In Fact, Have The Internet Goin’ Nuts
In this week’s version of movers and shakers, we look at the British open, fallen pinstripes, and how one outfit can heighten your visibility.
Michelle Beadle (#3 in Blog Buzz):
We’ve always been fans of Michelle Beadle. As our own Dan Fogarty put it, her “role of ‘cool girl who’s into sports,’ has always been a fan favorite.”
Since pictures of Beadle’s dress at the ESPYs surfaced, she has seen a meteoric rise in popularity (from 85 to 53 in News Buzz, from 56 to 16 in Bing search, 64 to 3 in Blog Buzz).
And while we loved her simply for being awesome on SportsNation, a lot of people who weren’t already familiar with her sure know who she is now.
Louis Oosthuizen (#2 in News Buzz):
How quickly one can emerge from obscurity and into the spotlight.
Just ask the winner of this past weekend’s British Open, Louis Oosthuizen, who, after his incredible 7 stroke victory over the field, has jumped to 15th in the World Rankings from 54th and has solidified his position in golf folklore.
What makes Oosthuizen’s story so amazing, moreover, is this: Oosthuizen had made the cut at only one previous major, and his victory at St. Andrews was his first PGA tournament victory.
Ever.
Based on this, it is of no shock that Oosthuizen has attracted so much news attention. And, realistically–despite the fact that, at 27, Oosthuizen has a long golf career ahead of him–it would be difficult to imagine a more impressive victory moving forward.
The New York Yankees (#1 in News Buzz):
The Yankees are often the most talked about team in sports. Yet this past week was unique.
Within two days of each other, the Yankees lost longtime PA Announcer Bob Sheppard and owner George Steinbrenner. And as both individuals were indisputably two of the most reputable and respected figures in baseball–two staples of the sport for over 50 and 30 years respectively–the organization received an abundance of attention.
We expect the Yankees to continue being the most buzzed about franchise in baseball; they are the Yankees after all. But this week’s web search numbers were big, even for them.
