Yes, A Squirrel Ran Onto The Field At Busch Stadium Again

Okay, this is getting ridiculous now. Just yesterday, everyone was talking about the squirrel that ran onto the field at Busch Stadium the night before, comically interrupting what turned out to be a 3-2 win for the Phillies over the Cardinals. And today, we’re talking about…the same thing, because last night it happened again:

Really, this was even better than the first time around. The pesky little thing bursting into the camera’s field of vision and actually inserting itself into a live play beats a mad dash in front of the stands – and fans oddly compelled to touch it – every time. (Well, unless you’re Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt.) And the rodent’s work was far from done after messing with the game…after that, it was time to run off into the stands and distract the crowd:

As funny as this all is, though, the squirrel was an in-game distraction, and as much as its intrusion might make us forget momentarily, the seasons of both teams are hanging in the balance. We can’t blame Oswalt, or Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, for being annoyed that such a weird distraction could interrupt their quest for a title (they’ve got special reason to be irritable, since the Phillies wound up losing 5-3, forcing a decisive Game 5). Of course, Manuel also admitted there’s not much anyone could have done to prevent it…but he did have one idea for how he might take the matter into his own hands.
