Star Wars Nerds Took Over Citi Field Last Night, And There Are Photos

The New York Mets are in the midst of another season to forget. They’re 71-77, they’ve been feuding with Major League Baseball, there was that whole Bernie Madoff connection – the team hasn’t given fans much to be excited about. Unless, that is, they’re also Star Wars fans.

And even then, the entertainment was just for one night – last night, when the Mets held Star Wars Night at Citi Field (and lost, 3-2). Apparently, it was also Filipino Night and Knitting Night – maybe the Mets realized they had an excess of theme nights and are just putting on a bunch every game to get them all out of the way before the end of the year. It was for a good cause, too: a portion of ticket sales benefited Stand Up To Cancer. And any event that would give diehard Mets and Star Wars fan/Mets blogger Jason Fry a chance to actually be a Stormtrooper has to have something going for it.

So what does a Star Wars night at a baseball stadium look like? There are plenty of photos to tell that story. We’ve gathered a few of them in the above gallery – just try convincing us a theme night like this wouldn’t work at just about any MLB stadium.
