The Padres Beat The Dodgers Last Night By Stealing Home Twice

Top of the 9th, runners on 2nd and 3rd, the Los Angeles Dodgers leading the San Diego Padres 6-5. San Diego’s Everth Cabrera is leading off third, and happens to notice Dodgers’ pitcher Kenley Jansen turn his back. Cabrera decided to take off for home, completely catching everyone off guard. Jansen’s throw home was high, and Cabrera was easily safe. Well, sort of.

Home plate umpire Greg Gibson, however, didn’t notice that minor snafu – you know, the whole ball-not-in-the-glove thing, and called Cabrera out. He quickly fixed his mistake when he saw the ball 20 feet away from the plate, but still. The overthrow also allowed Will Venable, who was on 2nd, to score as well.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention one quick thing. The Dodgers were one strike away from winning the game when the chaos ensued.

As soon as non-homemade SportsCenter footage becomes available, we’ll bring it to you.

That wasn’t stealing home twice. That was a steal and and a score on an error. Quit lying to your readers

I expected to see two steals of home. I didn’t get that.
