WATCH: ESPN Announcer Accidentally Calls Citi Field “Shitty Field”

Talk about a Freudian slip. Since the All-Star break, the Mets have been truly awful, posting a 3-10 record and scoring 2.8 runs per game.

Clearly, Steve Levy has taken note of this, and during last night’s Cardinals-Mets game he had a bit of trouble sending it back to Citi Field. When ESPN chose to go to live coverage of Alex Rodriguez’ at-bats in the Yankees-Indians game, one of the transitions back to the feed at Citi reflected just how terrible the Mets have been.

If the slip wasn’t Freudian, maybe it was one of those instances where you’re thinking about a different word than the one you’re saying, and both come out at once in some sort of unfortunate word-baby. What could Mr. Levy have been thinking about that would cause such a pronunciation misfire? Sheep? Sherpas? Sage Steele’s shoulders? Here’s the video:

Probably thinking of “Shea” (Mets old stadium name) and suddenly remembered it is now named Citi.
