WATCH: It’s Another Basebrawl, Brought To You By The Nationals And Marlins

Oh, Nyjer Morgan. The volatile Nationals outfielder has given us some classic moments, most notably when he threw his glove down in disgust after failing to make a leaping catch earlier this season… which led to an inside-the-park home run. And last night, Morgan added to his growing legend by starting up a classic, if short-lived, basebrawl during his team’s 16-10 loss to the Marlins.

Marlins pitcher Chris Volstad planted the seeds of the bench-clearer when he hit Morgan with a pitch in the fourth inning last night. In Morgan’s next at bat, Volstad didn’t hit him, but did throw behind him. Whether intentional or not, Morgan wasn’t having any of it, and immediately charged the mound.

We will say this – Volstad seemed to welcome the idea of fisticuffs, theatrically throwing his glove down as soon as Morgan charged. The real damage, however, was done by Marlins first baseman Gaby Sanchez, who clotheslined Morgan, bringing him to the ground and turning the brawl into a full-on pileup. Order was restored in fairly short order, but while it lasted, this was a good one. Video below:

They took exception to Morgan stealing second and third after the first time he got beaned since the Nats were down by 11. And don’t forget that Pat Listach tackled Volstad, then clocked him right in the eye.
