If You’re Wondering How Much You Could Get For An Authentic 1961 Willie Mays Uniform, The Answer Is “A Lot”

People love old-time baseball memorabilia. Willie Mays is one of the greatest baseball players in history. Combine Willie Mays and old-time baseball memorabilia, and you’ll probably wind up with something someone will pay a lot of money to get their hands on. When the memorabilia item in question is an actual, honest-to-God 1961 Willie Mays San Francisco Giants uniform, supposedly game-worn? As you’ll see a guy say in the video below, “You’re talking huge money.”

How huge? The owner of said jersey wet on popular reality program Pawn Stars to find out. (Hey, speaking of, what’s with these odd names pawn-shop-themed reality shows have, am I right? Pawn Stars? Hardcore Pawn? No explanation for why they’d be called that.) He found out that, to what was probably his great relief, that the jersey is indeed the real deal. Real enough to net him a tidy sum:

$31K. Not too shabby. Not quite Honus Wagner card level, but nothing to sneeze at. Also: I’m not a regular Pawn Stars watcher, but that clip above: that was basically Antiques Roadshow. So if you’re ever going to laugh at someone for watching that show but are a Pawn Stars watcher yourself, think twice.

And even though $31,000 is a lot of money, now we can’t help but wonder how much more the jersey could have fetched if it actually had been determined the jersey was game-worn and OH MY GOD YOU GUYS I FIGURED OUT WHY PAWN-THEMED SHOWS ARE CALLED THAT IT’S BECAUSE “PAWN” SOUNDS KIND OF LIKE “PORN” HOLY SHIT MIND BLOWN

Speaking of memorabilia, we’d be remiss if we didn’t suggest you visit our store. Because: Melo’s practice-worn Team USA shorts!
