This Screencap Represents SportsCenter At Its Most Desperate

Just bear with me. I’ve got some complicated feelings on this. Cool? Cool. What you see below is a tale of the tape from a very desperate SportsCenter. You see, last night was Star Wars Night at Citi Field, and coincidentally, last night was also the night the Mets let Snooki roam around the bowels of Citi Field and take pictures (we mentioned this briefly in yesterday’s roundup). And the game was against the Nationals, who feature Bryce Harper. So you get…

Part of me really wanted to hate this, because… groan. (Also, “wookiee” has two e’s. WHERE IS POYNTER ON THIS???) But part of me didn’t. For one thing, as groan-worthy as it is, if I had been the person who’d thought of the wookiee/Snooki/rookie wordplay, I’d have been ecstatic. For once, a play on words that has almost certainly never been done before! In the Internet age, you don’t find too many of those.

For another – again, things are slow right now. Baseball’s the only major sport happening, no Olympics yet, and today we don’t even have Penn State sanctions to completely dominate conversation anymore. What’s the harm in some ridiculous filler here and there, especially when it makes fun of Snooki for not really doing anything? Still, though, I was torn. So in trying to sort out my feelings on all this, I consulted colleague/baseball fan Marly. Maybe she’d have more luck sorting this out than I would?

Marly: hahaha
how could it be bad
it’s a brilliant name for a bizarre occurence
baseball has to be silly or else it’s just long games over a long season

Sold. So sold that I’m presenting you video of the segment below – video that includes Kevin Negandhi imitating Chewbacca. Again, things are slow out there. Sometimes, you’ve got to go a little crazy to make up for that.
