Danica Patrick Responds To Kyle Petty’s ‘She’s Not A Race Car Driver’ Comment

So on Thursday, former NASCAR driver and commentator Kyle Petty took a shot at Danica Patrick by saying that “she’s not a race car driver.” And furthermore “She never will be a race car driver.” Oh, and “She’s just a marketing machine.” Today Danica responded.

But my question to Petty, and all Danica detractors, is this: does that mean that everyone who finishes behind Danica are not race car drivers either? Because a lot of people in NASCAR have never won a race. And on average, I’ll bet she’s in the top 60 percent. So if that’s the case, why pick on her?

Anyway, Petty, on Thursday:

“She can go fast, and I’ve seen her go fast. She drives the wheels off it when she goes fast. But she’s not a race car driver. There’s a difference.

“ … Danica has been the perfect example of somebody who can qualify better than what she runs. She can go fast, but she can’t race. I think she’s come a long way, but she’s still not a race car driver. And I don’t think she’s ever going to be a race car driver.”

Patrick, today:

“I really don’t care, I don’t. It’s true that there are plenty of people that say really bad things about me. I hear about them, or I read them, or read them on Twitter – people want me to die – but at the end of the day, you just get over that kind of stuff and all you can do is trust that you’re doing a good job.”

How come every time someone in NASCAR discusses Danica Patrick, they sound like Ricky Bobby? It’s Anna Kournikova all over again. She’s not hurting anyone. Let it go.

Why does she still get press? She’s NEVER won anything! She’s ok looking but seeing how her abdomen goes up to her neck it leaves less to look at. She can just go away & no one would notice….like michelle lee or whatever that golfer’s name is.

Give me a break !!!!!!!!!!!! shes no driver and racing is no sport !!!! its an event like wrestling …Danica proves that racing it not the only business that you can really suck and profit at the same time

I like how the article is written as if from a viewpoint that Kyle Petty is wrong but they then use a pic of her in a bikini showing that even they just think she is just a pair of tits thrown out there to get attention.

Either way Mr Petty is right. She isn’t a skilled driver and it is especially sad because there are plenty of very skilled female drivers out there but Danica and the marketing machine behind her has made a joke of a woman in nascar

To be a driver who races on the track takes time to learn the finer points of oval racing. Danica, works with others in the team. Have you noticed, the winners have the best team. A great team has the re4cources to make it a great team. There is not any doubt in my mind she is being downgraded by those of us making comments who do not know what we are talking about. Do I include myself, the answer is yes. Yet what makes a winner and it is a great team. Thank about it.

If the reporter was smart, he would have followed up with, “A perfect example of someone who qualifies faster than they run, and therefore can’t race.? Who else would you put in this category?”

kyle petty never was any good…..

Kyle Petty is exactly right about Danica Patrick

After all this is her pitiful race

    Races: 253

    Wins: 1

She’s going to get a win eventually and will it be overhyped? Sure. It’s no sin to be good, not great as a driver and the hate she receives for being marketable is played out. Just let her drive and move on.

I hate to break it to all of you but NASCAR is a business. It is also a reality show that wouldn’t be nearly as much fun if we didn’t have people to cheer and people to boo. You either root for Danica (like I do) or you complain about her… either way NASCAR has found a way to keep us talking about it… which in turn is good for business.

How do you win in a slow car. She always finishes 5 to 10 spots above her qualifying time. Qualifying times are a reflection of the car not the driver ( give or take a spot or 2. She finishes a lot better than the car she is driving. The only time she was given a fast car she finished in the top 5
