Your Good Deed Of The Day: Race Car Driver Rescues Rival From Scary Crash
We’ve been writing about conflict here this afternoon. While it was newsworthy and riveting in its own way, that can get taxing. It can make you just want to see an example of people getting along, cooperating to get things done. Maybe even someone putting another person’s well-being ahead of their own. Luckily, the video above provides all that. In it, you’ll see 27-year-old Kip Hughes come to the aid of fellow racer Terry Muskrat(t) (UPDATE: one commenter says the proper spelling is just plain old “Muskrat”): when Muskratt was left trapped in his burning car after a fiery collision. In order to do so, of course, Hughes had to stop racing himself.
Thankfully, Hughes’ rescue attempt was successful, and Muskratt made it out with apparently nothing worse than a burned hand and hurting lower back. And one unfortunate fact that helps explain Hughes’ selflessness: his father once suffered severe burns in a similar crash. Kudos to Hughes: if you’re anything like us, you thought, “Wow, he did a great thing there, glad the guy in the crash is okay.” Then, you thought: “Wait: that guy’s name is Muskrat(t)?!” And then you went back to being glad he was okay…but you still thought about the name a little bit. Then, finally, you thought, “Well, good thing he’s well enough that we can get enjoyment out of his name”…and for that, we have Hughes to thank.
