NASCAR’s Kyle Busch Ticketed for Going 128 MPH in a 45 MPH Zone

NASCAR driver Kyle Busch was recently ticketed near Mooresville, NC for driving 128 miles per hour in 45 mph zone.  Insert race car joke here.

Even though it’s undoubtedly a bad idea to go that fast on a public road, you have to admit that there is something funny about the utter ridiculousness of that number.

So why did Busch suddenly decide to eschew simply going fast and gun it all the way to Ludicrous Speed?  He was playing around with his new “toy” -a Lexus concept car.  From NBC New York:

“I was test-driving a new sports car and I got carried away,” Busch said. “I went beyond the speed I should have been going on a public road. I apologize to the public, my fans, sponsors, and race teams for my lack of judgment.”

Yes, I would consider going 83 mph over the speed limit getting a bit carried away.  Busch cooperated with police and was given a citation for the violation, but was not arrested.

In 2006 Busch pled guilty to improper driving in Richmond, VA, so this isn’t his first public driving rebuke.  He is also currently on probation from NASCAR for a recent spat with Kevin Harvick.
