All That Kevin Garnett Retirement Talk Is Officially Bullsh*t

Kevin Garnett has re-signed with the Boston Celtics, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports. The deal is reportedly worth $34 million over three years.

We at SportsGrid aren’t usually in the business of bringing you mundane contract updates, but Kevin Garnett’s decision to re-up with Boston will significantly impact this year’s NBA free agency. Boston is now clearly reloading for another title run, desperately clinging to that feeble “we’ve never lost when we’re healthy” excuse, even though no team makes it through the playoffs with a clean bill of health.

More importantly, it’s clear now that someone was just blowing smoke up our collective ass with the Kevin Garnett retirement rumors. Maybe he thought about it for three seconds, at most. You don’t re-sign for THREE MORE YEARS if retirement were on the radar. And Danny Ainge wouldn’t commit to that many years if Garnett actually wanted to explore what’s possible.

This is why I generally stay away from free agent rumors. Ray Allen has already signed with the Heat, Clippers and Knicks, you know. Oh and Boston too, he’s going back there. Steve Nash said re-signing with Phoenix wasn’t a home run, and now everybody’s flipping out. Of course it’s not a home run – he would’ve re-signed already if it were.

It’s all a giant clusterfuck of misinformation and Twitter hysteria that I’d rather ignore.
