Anthony Randolph Interview Accidentally Highlights Quality (Or Lack Thereof) In NBA Summer League (Video)

Despite missing out on LeBron James, Donnie Walsh and the New York Knicks were–as anticipated–extremely active in free agency.

And of the many offseason acquisitions that may inspire optimism among Knicks fans, one of the most promising and unheralded is that of 21-year-old forward Anthony Randolph, who came over in the trade that sent David Lee to Golden State. Last year Randolph averaged 11.6 PPG, 6.5 RPG and 1.5 BPG in just 22.7 minutes played–and whose style of play projects a seamless transition into Mike D’Antoni‘s offensive scheme.

Knicks fans got a glimpse of Randolph during an interview he conducted during the Knicks’ summer league game recently. What stood out the most, however, was the not interview itself (although it is worth noting that Randolph came off as composed, informative, and optimistic) but rather how truly terrible the quality of Summer League basketball can be.

During the 4 minutes and 34 seconds during which Randolph was on air, the Raptors and Knicks were in the foreground displaying some comically abysmal basketball–with fundamentals nowhere to be found (despite a few 3′s, only one 2-pt FG is made) and with the highlights being an air-ball and a missed alley-oop.

If you can focus on the Randolph interview, enjoy it below.  Otherwise, be mesmerized by Summer League basketball.
