“Good Job, Good Effort” Is The New Miami Heat Rallying Cry

The Celtics pulled off an absolute stunner tonight, besting the Heat 94-90 in a gutsy effort that gave them a 3-2 series lead. Afterward, the Heat walked off the court in stunned silence. It was then that a single voice rang out through the South Beach night.
This pep talk from some young, unidentified fan is the same pep talk that he and his young friends have no doubt heard countless times before. Remember learning that it’s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game? That as long as you try your best, you’re a winner? Of course, when millions of dollars and your legacy and the hopes and dreams of a city rest on your shoulders, that tends to go out the window. But this kid hasn’t forgotten that. In a few years, he’ll be like the rest of us, and call his team something like “a bunch of assholes” or “lazy scrubs” after a heartbreaking loss — but not yet.
All things considered, it was a good effort. LeBron had 30, Wade had 27, and Chris Bosh tried to do his part coming back from an oblique injury. But is it really okay, kid? If LeBron has to head into another off-season of people questioning his greatness, will he remember your words? I hope so.
