Big Baby Goes Lobster Fishing, Makes Philosophical Comparison To Life In The NBA

Boston Celtics power forward Glen Davis took to the sea and “The Sensation” recently — presumably in an effort to get self-actualized, or whatever the sports psychologists are calling it these days.

Big Baby teamed up with lobstermen Richard Gilmore and Joseph Sinibaldi for some fishing off the coast of Popham Beach in Maine, which, in case you were wondering, is “way different than Boston.”

While Big Baby seemed to do more eating than catching, he did philosophize on the similarities between fishing and basketball.

“In order to be a great basketball player you have to have self-discipline,” he said. “For fishermen, this is like the professional level.”

The truth be told, lobster fishing looks like a lot of hard work and not very relaxing — let alone self-actualizing. But heck, Davis learned how to identify a girl lobster and even got a sweet certificate, all the while learning to appreciate the “beauties of the ocean.”

See more of his journey (complete with musical accompaniment) below:

If there was one line that we especially approved of, it was Gilmore sharing with Davis the fisherman’s mantra: “If the lock ain’t turning, you ain’t earning.”

It’s funny, you can add the letters “o-u-t” to the noun in the first clause, and the sentence will still carry the same meaning.
