A Special Guest Showed Up At Today’s NBA Lockout Negotiations

Earlier, NBA Players Association president Derek Fisher said the union would not accept the owners’ offer as it currently stands. Commissioner David Stern presented that offer with an ultimatum – if players don’t accept by tomorrow, the owners will make their offer significantly worse for players. With that ultimatum, the owners were either bluffing or we’re in for a long time without the NBA.

But it’s not all bad news for the union…apparently, based on the photo above (taken by Howard Beck of The New York Times), the players have a friend in high places – specifically, the 42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton. Beck described the players as being “in awe” of Clinton, while some suggested Clinton should take it upon himself to help end the lockout. Probably a headache Clinton could do without, but it beats getting brought up in this context.

Players know they are losing PR battle and are calling in any perceived positive they can find.  We already had NBA take over one franchise due to previous CBA and we could see smaller market teams forced to more to keep afloat.
