Derrick Rose Cried After Knee Surgery

I’m not judging. Knee surgery — particularly the hours following knee surgery — are right up there with kidney stones on the list of “painful experiences that make you want to blow your brains out.”

Via the Chicago Tribune:

[Dr.] Cole, who is accomplished in such surgeries, has a strong familiarity with Rose and, just as importantly, a comfort level with Rose’s family. Two sources said Cole spent multiple hours discussing Rose’s injury and the road ahead of the Bulls’ star in the direct aftermath of the MRI used to diagnose the April 28 injury.

Derrick was brought to tears initially from the pain of the surgery according to his brother, who spoke before being inducted into the Chicago Public League Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Hawthorne Race Course.

The expected rehab time for Rose is 8-to-10 months. He received a patellar tendon graft (the type of ACL surgery that is most often used by surgeons nowadays) and also, interestingly, an injection of platelet rich plasma blood, “which can promote faster healing.”
