Everybody Hates Kris: Humphries Booed (Loudly) By Knicks Fans

It’s going to be a long year for Kris Humphries. The former husband Kim Kardashian (who was recently named the NBA’s most disliked player) signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Nets this week, although last night he was probably wondering if that was such a good idea.

The Nets were in New York to play the Knicks in their last pre-season tuneup before the regular season tips off, and decided to bring in Humphries off the bench in the second quarter. His reception was not a kind one.

(Keep an eye out for the laughing Knicks fan with the backwards hat and video phone. That about sums it up.)

Perhaps the funniest part about the booing last night was that Knick announcer Mike Breen was totally shocked by it (“You feel bad for the young man!”). And later in the night, as Humphries sat on the bench and Knicks fans savagely taunted him with “We want Humph-ries!” chants, ol’ Mike still couldn’t quite figure out why they had it out for this unassuming power forward.

Even if you kind of expected this reception for Humphries (especially in New York), I can’t help but wonder if he really deserves it. I mean, he was just a lumbering, mono-syllabic pawn in the Kardashians’ cruel quest for 15 more minutes of fame, right? Does he deserve all of the hatred? I mean, the guy’s had it pretty tough: getting dumped, having magazine covers speculate on his sexuality, being questioned about his broken heart by Josh Elliott, and now possibly having to get booed in 33 road games? Yikes.
