Magic Johnson On Donald Sterling Racism Controversy: ‘I Don’t Think He Should Own A Team Anymore’

Magic Johnson appeared on NBA Countdown this morning prior to the Wizards-Bulls playoff game, and gave his extended thoughts on the alleged comments by Donald Sterling that hit the nation like a cold bucket of fish on Saturday. Magic was the unwitting focus of the recording obtained by TMZ (an extended version was released by Deadspin this morning), in which Sterling purportedly says that he doesn’t want his girlfriend, V. Stiviano, bringing black people to Clippers games … among other things.

Excerpts from Johnson’s interview:

“You can’t understand how hurt I was. And also I was hurt for all African-Americans and all minorities. … He was one of the first people I met when I came to LA. I had a friendship with him. He shouldn’t own a team, I don’t think he should own a team anymore. … This is bad for America.”

And … more reaction …

First, Clippers coach Doc Rivers said on Saturday that his entire team “from J.J. Reddick to Chris Paul” is pissed:
