Miami Has Renamed Dade County “Wade County.” Seriously.
According to ESPN.com, Miami city officials have renamed Dade County after beloved free agent Dwyane Wade. It is, without a doubt, the most creative effort a city has made yet in keeping a star player during this hectic 2010 free agent mixer.
By unanimous vote, Miami-Dade County commissioners declared Tuesday that the area would be known as “Miami-Wade County” from July 1-7, a week that coincides with the start of NBA free agency.
The resolution was written “in recognition of all that Dwyane Wade has done for the visibility, stature and national image” of the county.
In case you’re keeping score: New York has launched an ill-conceived ad campaign starring its mayor, Cleveland released a semi-embarrassing Youtube video starring non-recognizable celebrities, and now Miami has renamed a part of its city, all in the name of wooing NBA free agents.
