Penny Hardaway Wants To Play With LeBron In Miami. Here’s Why He Should Be Accommodated.

Penny Hardaway has stated his interest in joining the Miami Heat to play with LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade according to the Orlando Sentinel. No word yet on whether or not Penny was sporting a high-top fade when he made this announcement.

Although it was expected that a slew of veterans would come out of the woodwork and announce their willingness to piggyback their way to a title with the Heat, Penny’s intentions come completely out of left field.

For one, he’s 38 and has been out of the league for a number of years. He told the Bottom Line Sports show that “I’m healthy and I’m really ready to play. It’s not maximum minutes. I’m mentally ready to handle that type of a role,” but still, with his history of injuries and the fact that the Heat already released him in 2007, a signing by Pat Riley seems unlikely.

I’ll take off my sarcasm hat for a second and say I applaud Penny’s willingness to get back out there, even if it is just to sit on the bench and collect a ring. In fact, I’ll take it one further: the Heat should sign him.

Think about it: signing Hardaway, an overall good guy who was tabbed for greatness but who’s career never quite panned out might just be the sympathy boost the hated Miami Heat need right now. With all of the negative energy surrounding them, Air Penny would give them some respite from the Basketball Karma Police. The “Sign Penny Hardaway” initiative begins now.
