Prepare Yourselves, NBA Fans: Rasheed Wallace Is (Reportedly) Back In Business

Either Rasheed Wallace really rededicated himself to getting in shape, or the Lakers are really desperate. According to a report by a report by CSNNE’s A. Sherrod Blakely, Wallace is set to join the Los Angeles Lakers. Wallace hasn’t played since 2009-10 with the Celtics, and then he wasn’t particularly effective, averaging nine points and four rebounds in 22.5 minutes a game.

Supposedly, Wallace recently started training hard again and is in his best shape in some time, but still, he’s 37, so one has to think he’s well past his prime no matter how fit he is. Is his addition really what the Lakers need to lift themselves back up to elite status? Then again, as one anonymous executive told Blakely, “Of the big men that are available, is there one that’s really better?” That remains to be seen.

This move might have been more interesting last year, when we would have gotten to see how Wallace would coexist with Phil Jackson, but we do get to see if he aggravates Kobe at all. And given that Sheed has just the slightest reputation as a bit of an unpredictable wild card, it could happen. Oh, and a seldom-discussed fact about Wallace: he gets a lot of technical fouls. So that could be something to look out for too.
