RotoExperts Fantasy Basketball: Three Guys Trending Down And Five Trending Up
Here are three players you can drop in leagues without an injured reserved (IR) slot.
Jimmy Butler, G-F, Chicago: Butler is considered week-to-week with a sprained right big toe. Currently unable to put any weight on his injured foot, Butler has no definitive return date set. So, unless your team is built to last, Butler must exit the building. However, do keep a watchful eye on his possible return date. He will be a must-own once activated to return to game play.
Raymond Felton, G, New York: Imagine my surprise to find Felton still hanging around on active rosters. Felton has already missed four games, with more to come for sure. Not to mention his current career lows in points, assists, and field goal percentage. Yuck! Poof! Be gone!
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, F, Charlotte: Kidd-Gilchrist has become the poster boy for ultimate Fantasy teases. Well, it’s time to give up on the pursuit of him, realizing his Fantasy potential. His minutes have dipped to 22.3 per game, along with his overall stat production across the board. It’s definitely time to find a new guy!
THESE FIVE ARE ON THE RISE
Harrison Barnes, F, Golden State: Over the last four games Barnes is right where owners would like him to stay. He is shooting 49 percent from the field, with averages of 16.3 points per game (ppg), 5.3 rebounds per game (rpg), 4.3 assists per game (apg), and 2.0 3-pointers made (3pm). Andre Iguodala is nursing a strained left hamstring and the team announced he will be out indefinitely. Well, adding Barnes is a complete no-brainer now. Let’s enjoy this ride together!
Gerald Green, G-F, Phoenix: Green has found a home and a style of play that suits his skill set. Green is averaging 15 ppg and 2.6 3-pointers made on 48 percent shooting, in 29 minutes per game (mpg). In the absence of Eric Bledsoe (shin injury), Green is at 18.4 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.0 steals per game (spg), and 3.2 3-pointers made, on 46 percent shooting from the field, 86 percent from the line, in 35 minutes of action. Can you say “Green-light!”
John Henson, F-C, Milwaukee: Henson is the steady, big man gift-horse you have been staring in the mouth. Compare his season averages to his last four games. On the season: 10.8 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.2 apg, 0.8 spg, 1.9 blocks per game (bpg), 55 percent field goals made (fgm), and 62 percent free throws made (ftm) at 2.2 free throws attempted (fta), in 24.8 minutes per game. Now, his last four games: 10.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.3 spg, 2.0 bpg, on 47 percent shooting, 75 percent from the line (2.0 attempts), in 23.3 minutes of game time. That’s what we call “winning consistency.” Your big man prayers have been answered. You’re welcome.
Terrence Jones, F, Houston: Jones has been a pleasant surprise this season, since being inserted into the Rockets starting unit. Jones averages as a starter are as follows: 14.4 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.7 bpg, and 1.0 3-pointers made (47 percent from distance), along with 56 percent fgm, and 63 percent ftm (2.7 free throws attempted). We can manage to win with those numbers off the wire.
Rodney Stuckey, G, Detroit: In the words of hip-hop icon, LL Cool J, “Don’t call it a comeback! I been here for years, rockin’ my peers, puttin’ suckas’ in fear.” Yes, Stuckey is knocking out his competition. He is shooting a career best 49 percent from the field, while maintaining his career average of 82 percent free throw shooting and 4.3 free throw attempts. His most recent five-game stretch: 20.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.0 spg, and 0.6 3-pointers, on 56 percent shooting, 84 percent from the charity stripe (5.0 attempts per game), in 29.8 minutes. Ding-ding-ding! The bell rings clear! We have a new up-and-coming champion.
