So Cleveland Went Pretty Much Nuts When The NBA Draft Order Was Announced

NBA Draft Lottery night is big in Cleveland, because let’s face it, that’s the only thing they’ve won in recent years. The Cavaliers got to yell “Bingo!” first for the second time in three years, as Nick Gilbert, owner Dan Gilbert’s son, accepted the lottery ball that gave Cleveland the No. 1 pick in the June 27 NBA Draft.

In 2011, the Cavs used the No. 1 pick to take Kyrie Irving.

The Orlando Magic, although owning the best lottery odds, got the No. 2 pick. The Wizards got No. 3, even though they have the league’s eighth-worst record.

This bar in Cleveland took the news well:

Is that the Cavaliers’ mascot I see in there? I hope he was buying.

Complete first round draft order:

1. Cleveland Cavaliers (15.6 percent) Nerlens Noel of Kentucky, most likely.
2. Orlando Magic (25 percent) Ben McLemore, Kansas, if I were a betting man.
3. Washington Wizards (2.8 percent).
4. Charlotte Bobcats (19.9 percent).
5. Phoenix Suns (11.9 percent).
6. New Orleans Pelicans (8.8 percent).
7. Sacramento Kings (6.3 percent). Just be glad this doesn’t read Seattle SuperSonics.
8. Detroit Pistons (4.3 percent).
9. Minnesota Timberwolves ( 1.7 percent).
10. Portland Trail Blazers (1.1 percent)
11. Philadelphia 76ers (0.8 percent)
12. Oklahoma City Thunder (via Toronto Raptors) (0.7 percent).
13. Dallas Mavericks (0.6 percent).
14. Utah Jazz (0.5 percent).
15. Milwaukee Bucks.
16. Boston Celtics.
17. Atlanta Hawks.
18. Atlanta Hawks (via Houston Rockets).
19. Cleveland Cavaliers (via Phoenix Suns, from Miami Heat).
20. Chicago Bulls.
21. Utah Jazz (via Golden State Warriors).
22. Brooklyn Nets.
23. Indiana Pacers.
24. New York Knicks.
25. Los Angeles Clippers.
26. Minnesota Timberwolves (via Memphis Grizzlies).
27. Denver Nuggets.
28. San Antonio Spurs.
29. Oklahoma City Thunder.
30. Phoenix Suns (via Cleveland Cavalierss, from Los Angeles Lakers).

Can’t wait to hear those words: “And with the sixth pick in the NBA Draft, the New Orleans Pelicans pick …”
