The 2012 NBA Draft Is On: Anthony Davis Went First, And Everyone Else Came After

As expected, Kentucky’s Anthony Davis went number one overall to the New Orleans Hornets. From there, there have been some interesting picks, a notable lack of trades, and some awkward interviews.

To this point, the draft order has gone the way exactly zero people predicted (and if you did call all these picks, in order, send us a copy of your mock draft). The only exceptions are Davis and Bradley Beal to the Wizards, which were the absolute right choices at those spots.

Some of the most notable picks so far: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist going number two to the Bobcats, Dion Waters at number four to the Cavs (he was projected to go much later), Terrence Ross out of Washington number eight to Toronto (also a bit of a reach), and Austin Rivers will be teaming up with Anthony Davis in N’awlins, making the Hornets instantly watchable again.

And after pre-draft talk swirled of the Charlotte Bobcats trading down, the Cleveland Cavaliers trading up, the Houston Rockets trying to get into the top five for the sake of Dwight Howard, and a whole list of other rumors — including the Celtics trying to pair Austin Rivers with his father (womp womp, sad face) — we’ve instead been treated to a host of teams picking for themselves and themselves only. So far.

Here’s the top 10:

1. Anthony Davis, New Orleans
2. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Charlotte
3. Bradley Beal, Washington
4. Dion Waiters, Cleveland
5. Thomas Robinson, Sacramento
6. Damian Lillard, Portland
7. Harrison Barnes, Golden State
8. Terrence Ross, Toronto
9. Andre Drummond, Detroit
10. Austin Rivers, New Orleans
